Still Not Pregnant

Today is the start of yet another month where ‘things’ haven’t worked. And by ‘things’ I mean, I’m not pregnant. The whole journey of trying to have another baby is so up and down (no pun intended) There is no rhyme or reason to it. Some women get pregnant at the mere sight of their partners bits, for some it takes time and some have to go down the IVF route. We seem to be falling into the ‘it’s taking time’ category and quite frankly, it’s driving me nuts. I’m several packets down on Folic Acid, far more than I ever expected to have to take.

A Chemical Pregnancy

Oh, Christmas. Christmas was a bit of a funny one this year, unfortunately not the funny ‘ha ha’ kind. I’ll start by making brief apologies as this isn’t the cheeriest post to kick off with after festivities, but hey, that can’t be helped, your body doesn’t care about what day of the year it is. I’ve thought long and hard about putting this post out as it’s so personal, but I feel that it needs to be done, mostly for myself but also for any women out there who have experienced the same. Let me get to the point, a few weeks ago I was pregnant and now, well now I’m not. They say that writing can be cathartic, I’m hoping that’s the case for me.

8 Things I Didn’t Expect When I Was Pregnant

When you find out you are pregnant, if it’s your first nothing really prepares you for what is about to happen to your body. As much as you can read lots of books or speak to other women who have had babies and hear about their pregnancy aches and pains, you never really know how your own body will handle it. Again just like giving birth, it’s a total unknown. You don’t know whether you will embrace it and breeze through, or hate it and get every side effect going. Personally, I didn’t mind it too much, although I had horrible morning sickness in the beginning, then I suffered from Pelvic Girdle Pain towards the end BUT despite this, I didn’t mind being pregnant. I read lots of blogs and books. The blogs gave me the real women experiences and the books, the hard facts. I wanted to write a post about all the things that happened to me that I wasn’t necessarily expecting. Things that I liked, that I wasn’t prepared for, that annoyed me or that were downright irritating!

Why I Will Never Take The Contraceptive Pill Again

First proper post, here we go, its a biggie. I started to write this a long time ago and my baby is 8 months now, so starting on the road to ‘try’ and get pregnant seems like a lifetime ago (about two years to be precise). Having a baby was something my husband and I knew we both wanted and were heading towards after getting hitched. We knew it was part of the bigger picture and I just assumed it would happen straight away when we were ready. I was on the pill for about 15 years before thinking about babies, which, I actually can’t believe it was that long when I see it written down – that’s a huge amount of time! It was only when my husband and I decided we were ready to start trying (I know, tmi) that I started to read information online about the pill, when you should stop taking it when trying for a baby etc. It was on one of my many interweb searches that I stumbled across this website. Nat Kringoudis is an Aussie lady who is a natural fertility expert and a Chinese Medicine Doctor, amongst other things. She is a firm believer of healthy living, eating well and not being on the pill. Nat is all about getting to know your body and recognising the signs your body gives you when you are fertile each month rather than masking these signals with the pill. It’s clear from reading her site that she sees a lot of women in her practice to help with fertility issues and many of these women have been on the pill for a long time before trying for a baby.
